Carnaval!

Yes, it’s a carnival and no, we didn’t misspell that!

Garner will host its first-ever Carnaval Latino this Saturday, Sept. 21, with free, multicultural fun for the whole family.

Carnaval is a chance to celebrate diversity, and an opportunity to experience traditional and contemporary Latino cultures through food, music, dance and art.

For example, the event features live music from Raleigh-based bands L.E.T.A.L. and Caribe Vibe, plus arts and crafts, information tables, Latino artists and a visit with players from the Carolina Railhawks soccer team.

There’s food too!

Taste an assortment of Latino foods, then burn off those calories by dancing to different musical Latino styles from live bands. And take part in the Zumba party, or belly dance with instructors from Garner’s own Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department.

Activities at Carnaval Latino will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, on the back lawn of Garner Performing Arts Center, at 125 Avery St. in downtown Garner.

This free event is fun for the entire family; no alcohol or pets please.

Everyone is welcome! Or, in keeping with the spirit of the festival: Estan todos invitados!
