The Wet Set

Teams from across the state will converge in Cary this weekend to compete for the title of Best in the State in water polo.

Teams from as far as Asheville, Charlotte and Wilmington, both master and collegiate club teams, will compete for the right to claim they are the best water polo team in North Carolina, Nov. 15-16 at Triangle Aquatic Center.

Free and open to the public, proceeds from this tournament will be donated to Swim Across America to help fund cancer research. Formed in 1987, Swim Across America is dedicated to raising money and awareness for cancer research, prevention and treatment through swimming-related events.

The tourney is organized by the Triangle Water Polo Club.

The Triangle Aquatic Center is sponsoring the event by donating pool time and lifeguards, while each competing team has its own Swim Across America donation page where supporters make donations to help propel their team to the championship game and a chance at the title.

All individual pledges collected by each team go directly to Swim Across America.

Spectators are encouraged to attend as approximately 120 athletes participate in events surrounding the championship tournament, which will include at least 10 games played from noon to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, and approximately five games played from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16.
