The Meg’s Smile Foundation will host its third annual golf tournament on July 22 at Devil’s Ridge Golf Club in Holly Springs. The tournament, hosted by Chuck Kaiton, Voice of the Carolina Hurricanes, offers a.m. and p.m. tee times with 100 players in each time slot. Several contests and prizes will be doled out throughout the day. One randomly selected participant from each tee time will get a chance to make a shot to win $1 million. The 20th annual Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic, scheduled for August 23-25 at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh, needs volunteers. In total, the event will need more than 600 volunteers to support its goal of raising money to help find a cure for cancer. Opportunities are available to those 16 and older. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and the North Carolina Museum of Art established a new greenway trail called the Blue Loop. The one-mile loop, located on the museum’s campus, is part of BCBSNC’s Get Outside North Carolina! Initiative. The trail connects the museum to the Capital Area Greenway System.
The North Carolina Chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America held its fifth annual Walk to End Lupus Now on April 21. In the largest showing ever, almost 2,000 participants gathered on the North Carolina State University Centennial Campus. To date, the event has raised more than $112,000 for national research and local support. An estimated 5,200 people in the Triangle are living with lupus.
The Merry Maids of Wake County team participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS on April 13. Thousands of participants joined the Raleigh event to raise awareness and funding for ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. The Merry Maids of Wake County team has raised more than $1,600 for the ALS Association Jim “Catfish” Hunter Chapter.
Rex Healthcare Foundation received two grants totaling $110,000 from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure North Carolina Triangle to the Coast Affiliate. The grants will fund breast cancer screenings and treatments for underserved women. Since 2007, the Rex Healthcare Foundation has received more than $500,000 from the local Komen affiliate.
Band Together NC raised $852,722 for the Tammy Lynn Center for Developmental Disabilities with its May 4 Lyle Lovett concert at Koka Booth Amphitheatre. Since its founding, Band Together has raised more than $3 million for nonprofit organizations. Funds were raised through sponsorships, ticket sales, silent auctions, a wine grab, live artist paintings and a raffle at the concert.
WakeMed Raleigh Campus and WakeMed Cary Hospital each received a Hospital Safety Score of ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group. The score reflects quality and safety efforts WakeMed has implemented, including the hospital system’s Computerized Physician Order Entry, integrated patient safety and risk management programs, hand hygiene efforts and many other factors. The Leapfrog Group works to initiate improvements in the safety, quality and affordability of health care.
All three of Prestonwood Country Club’s championship golf courses are featured in this year’s rankings of the top 100 golf courses in North Carolina by the North Carolina Golf Panel. The debut Highlands course ranked No. 42 in the state. Meadows took 68, and Fairways ranked at 83rd. Prestonwood recently completed a 54-hole green complex renovation, added a new state-of-the-art indoor learning center, and unveiled new hybrid tees.
Baker Residential Carolinas received the Avid Benchmark Award, which recognizes builders ranking in the top 25 percent of customer experience nationwide. Hospice of Wake County was named a 2013 Hospice Honors recipient by Deyta, a national hospice quality resource. The award recognizes the top 100 hospice agencies providing the best patient care as rated by the patient’s caregiver.
Andy Siouville was promoted to on-site manager of Lochmere Association. In the community of more than 1,900 homes, Siouville will oversee the association’s recreation facilities and carry out routine association management duties. As on-site administrator, Siouville performed customer relations, facilities maintenance and accounting tasks.
