Cary Ballet Company and The 3D Project are collaborating to present United We Dance, in three classic-yet-contemporary performances that promise fun for audiences.
The 3D Project is the jazz-focused contemporary dance company affiliated with Cary Ballet Conservatory.
World-renowned artists Michael Uthoff and Miguel Perez contribute unique choreography and build what organizers compare to a combination of the beauty of Joffrey Ballet and the surprise of Cirque de Soleil.
You can enjoy United We Dance on March 14 at 6:30 p.m., and March 15 at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m.
The performance features the world premiere of Synthesis, choreographed by faculty from 3D and CBC, during which classical dancers on pointe and barefoot contemporary dancers will share the same stage, music and movement.
In Act 2, Uthoff and Perez purposely stretch dancers’ boundaries in their respective segments of United We Dance, alongside other pieces ranging from classic to edgy and modern.
“My goal was to challenge the CBC dancers on three levels,” Uthoff said. “One showcases students of dance with an aura and pretentiousness. The second level communicates complete solitude and is more spiritual. The last one lets go and is more fun and funky.”
“The piece is all about women dancing as a whole, each of them having their own voice, added Perez. “When they come together, they dance like a choir sings, in perfect harmony. The music is very ethereal, so I matched the movement to capture the sound. I want them to dance like Patti Labelle sings."
Deanna Seay, artistic director of CBC, Darra Gasper, artistic director of 3D, and local dancers bring all of this together in United We Dance.
The performances will be held at the Cary Arts Center, 101 Dry Ave., Cary.
