Hob Nob Jazz Series

The always popular Hob Nob Jazz Series at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre is returning for a sixth year. Shows will take place every Wednesday evening in May and feature local and regional talent from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. All seating and music will take place on the spacious Crescent Deck creating a casual environment to relax and mingle with friends. Also this year Booth Amphitheatre is proud to be Celebrating African American arts and artists in the Triangle. Art&Soul is a collaboration among the Triangle Friends of African American Arts, Wake County’s Cultural Presenters Forum and Convention and Visitors Bureaus in the region. Yolanda Rabun on May 10 and Marcus Anderson on May 31 will be showcased as part of this ongoing series. General Admission tickets are just $5. Buy all five concerts for $20. Children 12 and under are free. Picnics allowed (no alcohol please); Pets on leashes are allowed. Venue owned parking lots offer free parking and are filled on a first come first serve basis.

MARCUS ANDERSON until recently Marcus Anderson was best known for his musical skills playing saxophone as part of Prince’s New Power Generation. Of late he has certainly come into his own, both as a recording artist and as a performer. Marcus Anderson has released eight albums to date including his latest three in the past two years. “Marcus Anderson Xperience…M.A.X. Live in Concert” is a limited edition CD celebrating Anderson’s tenth anniversary performing and recording as a solo act. The CD, AND Coffee™, is an ode to and for coffee lovers, celebrating the launch of Anderson’s new coffee brand of the same name (www.ANDproducts.net). Finally, 2016 will see Anderson release, My Inspiration, his first solo inspirational CD.
Anderson has played with several headliners during guest appearances on well-noted shows such as Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Arsenio Hall Show, Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show. He is a veteran and audience favorite at such notable festivals as the Essence Music Festival, Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival, Seabreeze Jazz Festival, Capital Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and the Curacao North Sea Jazz Festival, and more.
Anderson not only plays saxophone, but he also plays flute, sings, writes, dances, produces and arranges music. It all comes together on stage when his showmanship and sheer jubilance electrifies audiences everywhere. Anderson has a strong international presence and his 2015 MAX Tour London performances were received to rave reviews. In a note, Anderson has taken his traditional smooth jazz roots and infused his music with R&B, Pop, Rock, Latin and funky grooves.
Anderson studied with Branford Marsalis and Gospel saxophonist Donald Hayes for several years, achieving many accolades along the way, including a North Carolina Gospel Announcers’ Prestige Award for Gospel Jazz Artist of the Year, further displaying his musical diversity. He has performed for Hillary Clinton and Jesse Jackson, amongst other dignitaries. He has also toured with CeeLo Green, Judith Hill, Sheila E, Liv Warfield and Anthony Hamilton.
As a solo artist, Anderson has been honored to open for and join on stage artists such as Ledisi, Lalah Hathaway, Brian Culbertson, Esperanza Spaulding, Peter White, Boney James, Kirk Whalum, Gerald Albright, George Duke, Wynton Marsalis, Alex Bugnon, Nnenna Freelon, Jeff Lorber, Bob Baldwin, Jennifer Holiday and The Sax Pack.
