Summer Sertoma Series

May 13, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

On May 13, Loose Strings Band will kick off Cary’s Summer Sertoma Series, a free concert series taking place on the second Saturday of each month through August. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. and are at Sertoma Amphitheatre in Bond Park, 801 High House Road.

Loose Strings Band, an all-female band from Galax, Virginia, is known for tight vocal harmonies and sweet rhythms. Together for 11 years, the band has traveled throughout southwest Virginia and beyond; it was one of the Bluegrass Ramble bands during IBMA’s 2016 World of Bluegrass. They have recently completed a new CD, As We Travel, which offers a unique blend of old and new selections with a bluegrass twist.

Additional concerts include:

  • Tyler Hughes and Sam Gleaves, June 10

Tyler Hughes and Sam Gleaves play old time country music and newly written songs from the Appalachian Mountains. As a duo, Gleaves and Hughes also perform contemporary songs that tell stories from today’s Appalachia, which can be heard on Gleaves’ critically acclaimed album Ain’t We Brothers.

  • Al Strong, July 8

Trumpet player Al Strong is well known in the Triangle’s growing jazz scene. He is a gifted musician who released his debut album, LoveStrong Vol. 1, last year. Strong has had the pleasure of performing for artists such as Brandford Marsalis, Aretha Franklin, Clay Aiken, and Linda Eder.

  • Jonathan Byrd & The Pickup Cowboy, Aug. 12

Jonathan Byrd & the Pickup Cowboy are musical gunslingers, vaudevillian hucksters, and old-fashioned tent revivalists. Between heartbreaking ballads and rousing sing-alongs, the Cowboys entertain and get audiences involved in the show.

The Town allows picnics without alcohol, leashed pets, and chairs and blankets at the concerts. All Sertoma Series shows occur rain or shine; in the event of rain, the concerts move to the Kiwanis Shelter, also in Bond Park.
