Bring a date, a group of friends, or fly solo as you enjoy the live music of Mo’ Jazz at downtown Cary’s new Downtown Park, 319 S. Academy St., for the first-ever “Park After Dark” on June 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Mo’ Jazz will help break in the performance stage at the park, bringing their mix of jazz, pop, gospel, and rhythm and blues for the first in a free, four-part series of entertainment featuring music and films through September. La Farm Bakery’s food truck will be on site to serve up sandwiches and Fresh Local Ice Cream will have a variety of flavors and toppings bar. Bond Brothers Beer Company will also be selling a selection of local brews.

Mo’ Jazz includes some of the area’s top musicians, songwriters and vocalists. Lead singer Connie McCoy has been wowing audiences with her charm and wit and has been described as entertainment packaged in elegance. She and Mo’ Jazz released their first album, “Your Love Is,” in May. Music director and keyboardist Derrek Lemar Croney has produced and co-produced several music projects and has directed numerous choirs. Lead guitarist Kenny Demery has a style that is soothing, soulful, and emotional. Drummer Rick Lindsay has played with several national gospel artists. Bassist Reginald Jessup has served as musical director for several bands and has written songs for independent artists and gospel stage plays.

Park After Dark is open to all ages, but is especially designed to give couples a special night out with activities planned at creating a date night atmosphere. A limited number of chairs will be provided, but citizens are encouraged to bring their own.

Park After Dark will also have events on July 12, Aug. 9, and Sept. 13. On July 12, Triangle-based Tea Cup Gin will bring a mix of original indie-jazz music, influenced by 20s-40s jazz standards, Tin Pan Alley, ragtime, delta blues, torch, chanson, bossa, tango, and show tunes. On Aug. 9, Raleigh-based quintet Peter Lamb and The Wolves take the stage with a repertoire that reaches all the way back to New Orleans’ earliest snycopators, but also forward to bards like Bob Dylan and Tom Waits; expect a tango on the heels of a French waltz or Russian folk song. The event on Sept. 13 is still to be determined.
