Pickin’ In The Pines Returns to Booth Amphitheatre

Wednesdays this fall just got a whole lot more fun with the return of Pickin’ In The Pines at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre. Shows will take place on Wednesday evenings in September and October and feature local and regional talent from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. All seating and music will take place on the spacious Crescent Deck creating a casual and comfortable environment to enjoy a mid-week outing with friends.

General Admission tickets are just $5. Buy all five concerts for $20. Children 12 and under are free. Picnics allowed (no alcohol please); Pets on leashes are allowed. Venue owned parking lots offer free parking and are filled on a first come first serve basis.

THE GRASS CATS continue to entertain audiences with their exciting live performances and critically acclaimed recordings. Their shows feature lively foot-stomping fiddle and banjo music, bluegrass classics, tight vocal harmonies, a capella gospel quartets and chart-topping original songs. Though careful never to lose their traditional bluegrass footing, the Cats also perform cleverly arranged “covers” of songs from artists as diverse as Eric Clapton, Duke Ellington and Johnny Cash.

With a total of eight CD’s, their recording career has been highly acclaimed with four of their CD’s landing in the Top 10 on Bluegrass Unlimited’s national chart. Their latest release, A Good Way To Get The Blues, produced their second #1 hit “A Good Way To Get The Blues”. Their 2002 release, The Blues Are Back In Town, received a highlight review in Bluegrass Unlimited magazine and garnered the CATS their first #1 single, “Bluegrass Man.” The CD was also named to County Sales’ Top 5 Traditional Bluegrass Recording list for 2002. Their 2007 release, Home To Carolina, garnered a #2 single, “Pill Or Potion”.

LORRAINE JORDAN is affectionately known as the “Lady of Tradition” in the bluegrass community, Lorraine Jordan grew up around bluegrass music on the coast of North Carolina. She now resides in Garner, just outside of Raleigh. She has performed bluegrass music for over twenty years and formed Carolina Road in 1998. She continues to be the driving force behind Carolina Road’s popularity and longevity as a consummate performer, songwriter, emcee and show organizer. She has been a finalist in the IBMA Songwriting Showcase and was the 1st runner-up in the prestigious Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at Merlefest twice.

Lorraine received the SPBGMA “Entertainer of the Year and Traditional Female Vocalist” in 2015. Lorraine is a co-founder for the formation of the Daughters of Bluegrass, whose Back to the Well album won the IBMA Recorded Event in 2006, and she was part of the Daughter’s latest album, Bluegrass Bouquet also a 2009 IBMA Recorded Event of the Year winner for the song “Proud to be a Daughter.” In her spare time she enjoys riding her Honda motorcycle and playing with her two Maltese – JD and Polly. CANADY THOMAS BAND: Canady Thomas fronts a Patsy Cline Tribute bands and has been performing regionally for almost 20 years. With theatre and music she has performed for The Kennedy Center and all over the country. More recently she toured our parts with Always… Patsy Cline in the title role.

Canady’s deep southern roots brought her back to country music and The Canady Thomas Band was formed 7 years ago. Playing for audiences each month in the Triangle, she feels honored to have so many loyal listeners. She sings the upbeat honky-tonk and classic hits of Patsy Cline. Its music that makes you remember, takes you back, makes you feel something, true Country music.  Her band features guitarist Allyn Love and bassist Roger Gupton.

TIM CIFERS grew up in Granville Co., just North of Raleigh. He was raised on his grandparents’ farm and since birth has been rooted in the “country.” He taught himself to sing and play guitar; he began singing at age 14 by attempting to sing like some of his favorite country artists, recording himself and playing it back on old cassette recorder to work on his pitch. And who was any better than George Strait, Conway Twitty, or Tracy Lawrence?

He’s played with some of the biggest stars in country music: Luke Bryan, Justin Moore, Cole Swindell, Rascal Flatts, Rodney Atkins, Ricky Skaggs, and more. He has recorded with incredible singers and songwriters like John Anderson, Eddy Raven, Jesse Keith Whitley Jr., and other award-winning musicians. In 2015 and 2017, Cifers was nominated for the Carolina Country Male Vocalist of the Year. His songs have been played across the nation and in several other countries. In 2011, he competed on a national T.V. show, entering Fox’s The X Factor USA where he finished in the top 20 overall out of 200,000+ contestants.

LONGLEAF PINENUTS are a group of seasoned musicians from Raleigh. They sing around one microphone, sharing the sounds of artists like Ernest Tubb and the Texas Troubadours, the Stanley Brothers, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, and Hank Williams, Sr. The band members are: Br’er Craig Thompson (bass, lead vocals), Colonel Clifford Wade Hale, Reverend Bishop Phil Lanier (mandolin, vocals), Fiddlin’ Clay Shelor, Cap’m Flattop Jeff Ward, and Uncle Pen Hugh Moore (banjo, vocals), and their band name derives from their home state’s state tree, the Longleaf Pine.
