THE UMSTEAD HOTEL & SPA HOSTS THE WORK OF ARTIST MARCY GREGG

The Charlotte-based painter displays her oil paintings at the gallery of the award-winning hotel through the end of the year

WHAT: The Umstead Hotel & Spa announces its next art gallery reception and show, featuring Marcy Gregg. The Charlotte painter uses fine oil paints on canvas to create multifaceted explorations of color, form, and texture, founded in spirituality.

WHO:  Born in rural East Texas, Marcy Gregg graduated from Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, where she majored in studio art. Now located in Charlotte, her life was forever changed after a serious complication arose during the delivery of her third child, leaving Gregg in a coma from which there was little hope of recovery. Overcoming incredible odds, she regained consciousness but lost much of her memory. Faced with the daunting task of rebuilding her identity, Gregg slowly put the pieces of her life back together, even starting her own corporate consulting business. But the gratitude she felt at being given a second chance at life did not find expression in the corporate world. Determined to make the most of the life that had been restored to her, Gregg sold her successful business in 2006 and returned to her true passion, art. She begins each painting writing a Bible verse across the blank canvas, which serves as the heart of the painting, as well as the foundation of the title for work when complete.
