Striving for More is dedicated to ensuring that children with cancer and their families receive quality emotional and spiritual support. At Striving for More, the vision is a community where all children with cancer and their families receive emotional and spiritual support beginning from the moment of diagnosis; regardless of where they receive treatment; regardless of their socioeconomic status or insurance coverage; and with seamless continuity and high quality.
The organization funds psychosocial care for kids with cancer. Psychosocial care includes pediatric psychologists, child life specialists, social workers and pastors. Striving for More seeks to reshape attitudes to recognize psychological and emotional support as an integral part of cancer care.
Striving for More raises money that is passed on to hospitals in the form of directed gifts or grants.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Make bead bags to hold “beads of courage” earned by children as they undergo treatments, which help them recount their experiences and show their strength.

Sew medical play dolls for the Duke Pediatric Hematology Oncology Department. Simple blank dolls are used as a communication tool for explaining invasive procedures to a child and/or for diagnosing a child's discomfort.

Ushers and ticket takers at Duke or N.C. State Football games earn Striving for More donations. The volunteer shift is usually over by halftime, and volunteers are able to watch the duration of the games for free.

A volunteer group on Facebook keeps those interested apprised of new opportunities.
