Temple Theatre presents Mike Wiley’s “Breach of Peace”
Nov 17, 2017 @ 12:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$15On May 24, 1961, in Montgomery, Alabama, 12 American heroes boarded a Trailways bus bound for New Orleans – and history. Over the next few months, 300 other bus riders took up their cause, determined to desegregate buses. Many were arrested. Other, less fortunate protesters fell victim to mob violence.
“Breach of Peace” is based on true accounts of surviving participants of the Freedom Rides and others involved in the early struggle for African-American equality. This solo-play is a living monument to the remarkable young men and women of various races, religions, and backgrounds who rose to face the dangers of fighting for just and equal treatment for all.
Temple Theatre is proud to once again welcome Mike Wiley, who has spent the last decade fulfilling his mission to bring educational theater to young audiences and communities across the country. Through his performances, Wiley has introduced countless students and communities to the legacies of Emmett Till, Henry “Box” Brown, Jackie Robinson, and more. In addition to his stage performances, he has also appeared on the Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, and National Geographic Channel; has been featured in Our State magazine; and on PBS’s North Carolina Now and WUNC’s The State of Things.
The Lee County Arts Council and Central Carolina Community College have partnered to bring “Breach of Peace” to the Temple Theatre for two performances on Nov 17, 2017, at 12:30pm and 7:30pm. Reserved seating is $15. For more information, or to purchase tickets, call the Temple Box Office at 919-774-4155, or visit templeshows.com.
