Town of Cary Memorial Day Remembrance
May 28, 2018 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
The Town of Cary invites citizens and visitors to its free Memorial Day Remembrance at Veteran’s Freedom Park, 1513 N. Harrison Ave., on May 28 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The ceremony will feature speakers from the Town and local armed forces community support groups including Paul Berry, who retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant Major after 30 years of service; David Wagoner, the incoming commander of the Cary VFW Post 7383.; and Navy veteran Frank Stancil.
The Cary Town Band will be performing patriotic music throughout the event and Carolina Veterans Support Group will be providing a field of flags. Those that would like to sponsor a flag can do so by visiting www.cvsgnc.org. The Town will again offer toy soldiers that citizens can write a soldier’s name on and place in the memorial as a way to honor all of those who have served in the armed forces. These soldiers will be saved and placed in the monument every Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Parking will be available at Cary Academy, 1500 N. Harrison Ave., across the street from Veteran’s Freedom Park. A free shuttle that is handicap accessible will run from Cary Academy’s parking lot to Veteran’s Freedom Park, and there will be a police patrol to assist with pedestrian crossing of Harrison Avenue.
