$15 – $25Six String presents Russ Varnell and The Farmer & Adele
Russ Varnell was born May 31, 1975. He was born and raised all his life in Black Creek NC. Russ says ” My parents raised me up listening to 100% hardcore traditional country music.” Russ says he grew up watching “HEE HAW”, “Porter Wagoner Show” on TV and listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio with his parents whenever they could get it to come in clear enough on their old home clock radio.
Russ musical influences are: George Jones, Merle Haggard, Elvis, Hank Sr., Ernest Tubb, Del Reeves, Don Rich, Red Simpson and most of all the Legendary Buck Owens! “I’m 100% a traditional real country singer” says Russ. “Nothing makes me more upset and let down than when I see and hear singers in our industry who claim to be country and then watch them sound like a rock or anything but a country singer!” “I sometimes think that my generation doesn’t even know what a country singer supposed to sound like.”
With the sounds of classic songwriting in their music and the future in their sights, The Farmer & Adele are reimaging the modern cowboy/cowgirl while respecting its beginnings. Based out of Nashville, TN, The Farmer & Adele – led by Grace Adele and Keenan Wade – leads the pack of a new wave of musicians revitalizing western swing music. With a star-studded record, award nominations and their own morning radio show, The Farmer & Adele are a one-two punch of classic meets modern.
“I’m not that serious of a person,” Grace Adele explains, “Sometimes my songs can be more serious than not, but I wanted the chance to just sings songs that are entertaining and uplifting.” The resulting project — The Farmer & Adele Into the Wide Open Sky — is an album for everyone, full of music written to be entertaining and enjoyable. Grace adds with a chuckle, “I guess this is what it looks like when you fight your country western demons.”
The band’s debut effort, Into the Wide Open Sky, combines original compositions rooted in familiar styles of the American landscape. Traces of classic country, jazz and Tin Pan Alley songwriting interweave throughout the group’s top-notch musicianship. The record also features a collaborative guest appearance from Grammy Award-winning western swing icons Riders In The Sky, who back the band throughout the album’s eight tracks.
