Sep 11, 2018 @ 8:30 am - 9:30 am
9/11 Day of Service & Remembrance
Sponsored by: Town of Fuquay-Varina
Tuesday, September 11, 8:30 am
Community Center (near flagpole), 820 S. Main Street, Fuquay-Varina, NC
Join us as we remember 9/11 and keep alive the spirit of unity and compassion that arose in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. The FVHS Chorus will perform.
Our featured speaker Alicia Ledek, currently a resident of Fuquay-Varina, will share her remembrances of 9/11 and the impact it has had on her family. Her father, NYPD Detective Michael Ledek spent a great deal of time at the recovery effort after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Mr. Ledek passed away Feb. 9, 2018.
Alicia and her family will honor her father’s legacy of service by running in the Stephen Sillers Tunnel to Towers 5K race in New York on Sept. 30. The event symbolizes Stephen Siller’s final footsteps from the foot of the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel (formerly known as the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel) to the Twin Towers Site, and pays homage to the 343 FDNY firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and thousands of civilians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
Proceeds from the Tunnel to Towers 5K support the Foundation’s programs, including those benefiting first responders, and catastrophically injured service members. If you would like to donate to the Ledek Family Team visit: https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/team-23268
