Carolina Ballet, the only professional ballet company in the Triangle, is proud to present An Evening of Bernstein & Robbins at Fletcher Opera Theater from March 7 through March 24. An Evening of Bernstein & Robbins celebrates the 100th anniversaries of the births of Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins, icons of classical music, ballet, and Broadway who changed the landscape of American dance.

An Evening of Bernstein & Robbins combines some of their most well-known work. Carolina Ballet revives the duo’s Fancy Free and debuts Robbins’ Afternoon of a Faun set to the music of Claude Debussy. Fancy Free is an exceptionally fun ballet featuring jazzy music that tells the story of three sailors on shore leave in New York City. The ballet was the inspiration for a Broadway show and a famous movie, both titled On the Town. Afternoon of a Faun portrays the making of a ballet and a chance encounter between two young dancers in a studio.

“We are excited to bring together two notable and entertaining ballets to create An Evening of Bernstein & Robbins,” said Carolina Ballet Co-Artistic Director Zalman Raffael. “We believe this performance will appeal to a wide, diverse audience as it feels a bit more Broadway than a traditional ballet. We look forward to welcoming the Triangle community to enjoy the show.”

All performances will take place in Fletcher Opera Theater at Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Dates and times are:

College students may purchase single tickets for $20 with a valid student ID, and high school students may receive complimentary tickets with a valid student ID. In addition, military personnel may receive a 20 percent discount on Carolina Ballet tickets.
