Triangle Youth Strings Fall Concert

Nov 22, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

$5

Coming up on the Philharmonic Association concert calendar is our Strings Fall Concert on Friday, November 22nd at 7:00 pm.   This concert will feature both of our string orchestras, the Triangle Youth String Orchestra (TYSO) and the Triangle Youth String Sinfonia (Sinfonia).

It is always inspiring to watch TYSO, our introductory level orchestra, perform their first concert of the season.  For many of these students, it is the first concert they have ever performed.  It is an exciting experience for the young musicians to see the result of their months of hard work. The TYSO musicians certainly have worked hard this semester to master the challenging and well known pieces on their concert program.

On TYSO’s portion of the program are the following selections:

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 (arranged by Richard Meyer)
Themes from Brahms’ First Symphony arranged by Robert Frost
Erik Satie’s Gymnopedia No. 3 (arranged by Bob Phillips)
Allegro from Antonio Vivaldi’s Autumn (arranged by Richard Meyer)
William Owen’s Turbulence

In order to fully appreciate TYSO’s performance, read the program notes kindly written by several of our musician interns. Click here to read their program notes and learn more about some of the pieces on TYSO’s program.

Sinfonia’s portion of the program will be equally as enjoyable as the first half.  On Sinfonia’s program are two crowd favorites and a piece by Alan Lee Silva called “The Evil Eye and the Hideous Heart” which features not only intriguing music, but accompanying narration.  Don’t pass up the opportunity to hear this one-of-a-kind composition by Alan Lee Silva.

Sinfonia’s program is as follows:

Fantasy on Simply Gifts arranged by Robert Kerr
Corelli’s Concerto VIII, Opus 6, No. 8
Alan Lee Silva’s The Evil Eye and the Hideous Heart

Whether you want to be inspired by witnessing the first concert of many of our TYSO musicians, enjoy an evening of pleasant music, or hear a rarely performed and intriguing piece played by Sinfonia, be sure to add our Strings Fall Concert to your calendar on Friday, November 22nd at 7:00 pm at the Cary Arts Center.  Tickets are available for purchase in the lobby of the Cary Arts Center prior to the concert or through Etix for an added fee.
