Cary’s Arbor Day Celebration
Head over to Bond Park and explore the wonders of trees and forests at Cary’s Arbor Day Celebration, March 12 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. This free festival will feature tree identification walks, planting demonstrations, a Q&A with arborists, children’s activities, live music and locally sourced food and drink.
“Our Arbor Day Celebration is a great way to learn how to live a greener lifestyle in our community; guests can enjoy education booths focusing on monarch butterflies, native trees, feeding songbirds, making your own compost, organic gardening and more,” said Sarah Justice, the environmental outreach program coordinator for the Town of Cary. “The free kids’ activity station will be near our musical stage so that guests can pick up an adult beverage from our beer vendor, purchase a delicious organic lunch from our farm-to-fork food vendor and kick back and enjoy the day!”
Good Hope Farm Plant Sale
Start your spring garden and support the work of Good Hope Farm by purchasing vegetable and herb plants from their annual plant sale! A wide variety of plant types are available for order with pickup taking place at the beautiful historic farm April 7-9.
“All the profits from the plant sale will go to support the work of Good Hope Farm as the project creates food security in our region through agritourism events, garden education opportunities, wildlife habitat preservation, and farmer training for new and beginning farmers,” said Justice.
Compost Giveaway Workshops
The Town of Cary’s Compost Giveaway Workshops take place March 22-26! Learn how to turn your kitchen scraps into your own organic soil amendment through backyard composting. Participants receive three bags of compost, two home guidebooks, a Q&A with a compost expert and a tour of historic Good Hope Farm.
“Our Compost Giveaway Workshops are always popular because participants receive personalized instruction on how to get started with backyard composting, plus the three sample bags of finished compost that they can use in their gardens right away,” said Justice. “Folks also really enjoy the chance to see agriculture at work through the tour of Good Hope Farm that is part of each workshop.”
