TheraFriends Community Partnership: Family Fun Fest
Aug 27, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
FreeTHERAFRIENDS COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP HOSTS COMMUNITY LAUNCH, PLAY EVENT AT KIDS TOGETHER INC PARK THIS AUGUST 27, 2022.
CARY, NC,– TheraFriends Community Partnership is a new, much-needed nonprofit organization that provides pediatric therapy for children whose families are uninsured and regardless of any barriers to pay. We are thrilled to host our official community launch event in August, to celebrate the end of summer and provide information to families about TheraFriends. Parents will have the opportunity to build community by meeting other parents
and children of all abilities while enjoying a variety of fun activities.
Co-Founder, Stephanie Hall explains, “Tisha and I have been private practice owners and have seen the struggles and barriers families have to deal with in order to receive quality services for their child. As providers it is disheartening to constantly be fighting with insurance companies to pay for these much-needed services. We became therapists because we want to help people, and we felt like we were failing a lot of o families so we had
to find a solution.”
TheraFriends Community Launch
WHEN: August 27, 2022, 10 AM – 1 PM
WHERE: Kids Together Inc. Playground at Marla Dorrel Park, Cary NC
WHO: Everyone!
GOAL: The TheraFriends community launch will spread awareness of our programs, foster community ,and have fun together while doing it. In addition to some fun family-friendly activities and treats, we will highlight our 4 Pillars of Service and how we plan to assist those who work with us.
TheraFriends 4 Pillars of Service:
1. Pediatric Therapy: 1:1 physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, as well as screenings and evaluations, comprehensive evaluation reports, and treatment plans for every patient.
2. Community Programming: Providing community programs that support the needs of disabled children and their families, such as outdoor therapeutic playgroups, co-treating groups, and recreational programs.
3. Support for Caregivers: Parents and caregivers will be given specific support as well as community building through attending events.
4. Educational Support: We will provide presentations and clinical supervision to local university students and continuing education opportunities for professionals in the child development fields.
Corey Briskey, local parent and TheraFriends board member shares, “TheraFriends means knowing that my son will be getting excellent quality therapy without having to compromise his autonomy and well-being. In our experience, most therapists asserted their dominance and pushed through even when my child clearly did not want to do the requested task. At TheraFriends, he will not only be accepted for who he is but will be listened to and acknowledged just like any other child would at his age. A disabled child’s needs should never be ignored. I know the community will benefit in the same way. And even more importantly, there will be an opportunity for those with less resources to access high quality therapeutic services. Care that their kiddos deserve and shouldn’t miss out on just because they have less resources.”
About TheraFriends Community Partnership:
TheraFriends Community Partnership was founded to improve access to pediatric therapy for children and families in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina (Wake, Durham, Orange, Chatham counties). Based on results from a study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), 1 in 6 children in the United States has one or more developmental disability or other developmental delays. The CDC has also cited research supporting that “early intervention services can change a child’s developmental path and improve outcomes for children, families, and communities.”
TheraFriends embraces and fosters diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within our community and throughout the fabric of our programming. We value and welcome all people and do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, physical ability, neurodiversity, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, orfinancial means.
