Over The Edge for Special Olympics North Carolina

Oct 1, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

$1,000

Area thrill seekers will get the unique opportunity to rappel a 30-story skyscraper in downtown Raleigh on Saturday, Oct. 1 while supporting Special Olympics North Carolina (SONC). Proceeds from the Over The Edge fundraising event will benefit Special Olympics activity in North Carolina. This year’s event in Raleigh will raise nearly $100,000, which will contribute to the mission of SONC in cultivating sports opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Participants must raise a minimum of $1,000 to rappel. For a two-person team, if one team member raises $1,500 and the second team member raises $500, for a total of $2,000, both members are eligible to rappel.

In order to go Over The Edge, you must be at least 14 years old and weigh between 100 and 300 lbs. If you do not meet these requirements and want to participate, contact Leslie Moyar at lmoyar@sonc.net. Register online and contact Leslie Moyar to schedule a rappel time on Oct. 1.

Friends, fans and media representatives are encouraged to attend. The public is also encouraged to participate as a rappeller or donate to an individual or corporate team fundraiser. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1. Rappels are scheduled every 15 minutes.

About Special Olympics North Carolina
Since 1968, the organization has used the transformative power of sports to improve the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. SONC offers year-round training and competition in 20 Olympic-type sports on local and state levels as well as health and wellness initiatives to improve the health status and increase access to community health resources for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Youth become agents of change through Unified Champion Schools, an education and sports-based program created by Special Olympics to build an inclusive environment among youth with and without intellectual disabilities as well as empower them to become youth leaders and create change in their community.
