Raising Money for a Cause: A Charity Event Roundup

Do you care about your community? April is full of opportunities to do good and show your love in a tangible way! Here is a roundup of upcoming charity events in our area.

“It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” — Mother Teresa

Holly Springs Rotary Club Charity Golf Classic

Monday, April 17

Now in its 14th year, the Charity Golf Classic is a favorite in the community. Held each year at Devil’s Ridge Golf Club, all proceeds from the event stay in the community. Total proceeds from previous Charity Golf Classics have exceeded $150,000.

Whether you sponsor, donate, or golf, there are plenty of ways to be involved!

“It’s not just golfers who can contribute; business sponsorships and donations are what fuel the generous donations the Holly Springs Rotary Club has been able to spread across organizations helping those in need within our community,” said Rotary Club member Asa Beavers. “Food Cupboard volunteer support and donations, high school scholarships, and supporting small business through Launch Holly Springs are several organizations receiving ongoing support from the Club year after year.”

PEAK Community Nights at Southern Peak Brewery

At Southern Peak Brewery, each Friday is PEAK Community Night — a time when they contribute 10% of their daily proceeds to a different charity every week.

April 14: Proceeds will benefit Kicking Kids’ Cancer, a nonprofit organization with the mission to help fund innovative clinical research that can one day find a cancer cure for the children in our community.

April 21: Proceeds will benefit The Western Wake Crisis Ministry. The Western Wake Crisis Ministry partners with those in crisis, helping them gain stability through basic support for food, financial/housing assistance, education, and opportunity.

Vicious Fishes: Live Music, Games, and a Great Cause

To honor their friend Jorge “Papi” Llanes, who recently lost his battle with pancreatic cancer, Vicious Fishes brewed a one-of-a-kind beer that evokes Jorge’s Cuban heritage: a Cuban IPA called “Papi’s Eepa.” All proceeds from the sale of Papi’s Eepa will go to the Pancreatic Cancer Network (please consider joining their fundraising team). Raise a toast to Jorge as they celebrate his memory on Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. with live music, games, and giveaways.

Ruben & Clay’s Twenty: The Tour

Saturday, April 29, 7 p.m.

It’s been 20 years since American Idol stars Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken sang their way into America’s hearts, and now they are coming to Cary to kick off one of the most anticipated tours of the year. This special night of music at Koka Booth Amphitheatre, scheduled for Saturday, April 29, at 7 p.m., will benefit the Kay Yow Cancer Fund — a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting cancers affecting all women.

Corral’s Second Annual Grow and Bloom Gala

Friday, April 28

For the past 14 years, CORRAL Riding Academy has been changing the lives of adolescent girls in high-risk situations. This year they are hosting the Second Annual Grow & Bloom Gala on April 28 at their Kildaire Farm Campus in Cary. During the evening, attendees will hear stories of growth from both past and present participants. Corral’s goal is to raise $300,000 in support of the 131 girls they are striving to serve — the largest group of girls they’ve ever hosted in a year.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace: Holsters and Hoses 2023

Saturday, May 13

Save the date! On May 13, the Fuquay-Varina Fire Department and the Fuquay-Varina Police Department are partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for an event called Holsters and Hoses 2023. Both departments will be making beds for children and families in our community. There will be a friendly competition between FVFD and FVPD to see which department can build the most beds in addition to raising money for building materials, mattresses, and bedding.
