Out of the Darkness Walk
Sep 24, 2023 @ 4:30 pm - 9:00 pm
This walk is put on annually in September by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Just 11 years ago there were just 32 people at the first walk, and they but last year the walk had grown to 700 walkers and raised over $100K. The Central Carolina Chapter serves Wake, Orange, Durham, Chatham and Johnston County.
Why is it important?
In 2020 there were 1,436 deaths by suicide in North Carolina and 67 of them were youth. Suicide is preventable.
Therefore we need your support, through these walks AFSP raises money to support Loss Survivor support programs, education programs in our schools and gun ranges, as well as being the most prominent nonprofit Mental Health research supporter in the US.
Please join in walking in remembrance, hope, and support.
The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a journey of remembrance, hope, and support. It unites our communities and provides an opportunity to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental health conditions have affected our lives and the lives of those we love and care about.
