The Umstead Gallery is proud to present “Friends of My Youth,” a captivating solo exhibition featuring the works of multi-disciplinary artist Shelley Smith. The exhibition will run from July 11 to October 31, 2023 and will showcase Smith’s unique fusion of contemporary digital technologies with ancient hand embroidery and fabric manipulation techniques.

Smith, a talented artist based in Raleigh, NC, first caught the attention of art enthusiasts when she participated in the “Branching Out” group exhibition at The Umstead Gallery in 2021, alongside 8 other contemporary artists from North Carolina. Now, the Umstead gallery is excited to host her solo show, offering a deeper insight into her current body of work.

Artist’s Reception

The highlight of the exhibition will be Smith’s artist reception, taking place on Wednesday, August 30th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Attendees can expect to view the pieces and a meet and greet.
