Join us for FALC’s next free public monthly program featuring prolific painter and amazingly versatile artist Dan Nelson!
Dan has devoted decades to a dizzying array of professional artistic endeavors. He calls his painting style “abstract realism”. In his presentation “Abstract Art: What Makes Us Like It?” you’ll see how he expertly wields and combines the essential elements of design. He’ll demo how he paints with both hands, creates interesting marks and movements, and strikes a balance between the chaotic and the over-controlled.
An experienced teacher and plein air performing artist, Dan has made his living for decades as a freelance illustrator and dabbled in everything from airbrush to street painting to sand sculpture. He found his niche when he began producing 8-by-10-foot paintings in the streets and parks of his hometown, Raleigh, NC. He has spent many years with his plein air easel at weddings, festivals, and fundraisers all the way from from California to Cote d’Azur, but his favorite gig is performing improvisational music on more than 50 musical instruments whenever the opportunity arises.
