Sep 11, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 9:30 am
9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance
Sponsored by: Town of Fuquay-Varina
Monday, Sept. 11, 8:30 – 9:30 am
Town Hall, 401 Old Honeycutt Road, Fuquay-Varina, NC
Join us as we remember 9/11 and keep alive the spirit of unity and compassion that arose in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. WRAL’s Gerald Owens will be our keynote speaker. The FVHS choir will perform.
As part of our National Day of Service project, the Town is asking citizens to participate in “Thousands of Thanks.” This national community engagement campaign aims to collect thousands of messages and words of inspiration on quilt pieces to remind families of fallen military heroes that America remembers and appreciates their service and sacrifice. The program is administered through Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) which offers help, hope and healing to all those grieving the death of a loved one serving in America’s Armed Forces.
Quilt squares and markers will be available at the 9/11 service, so bring your inspirational message and creativity! The quilt squares will also be available at Town Hall and the Community Center thru Sept. 15th. When completed, quilt squares will be sent to TAPS volunteers to be sewn into 3 x 3 table toppers and given to families who have lost a loved one in the service of our great country.
Let’s show families of fallen military heroes that Fuquay-Varina is a dash more caring! If you have questions about the service project, please contact Susan Weis at sweis@fuquay-Varina.org or 919-552-1417.
