“A Need Fulfilled” focuses on the 600 brave black nurses who fought for the right to serve during World War II, through letters, pictures, and narratives from the women who served. The play features a lively soundtrack, with hot tunes from the Harlem Renaissance, including Louis Gilbert. Louis Armstrong, Grant Miller, Billy Holiday, and other top artists from the 1940’s.
The play starts with the nurses crossing the Atlantic, landing in Africa, and facing the racism and adversity of their allies as well as the bombs and bullets of the enemy. The play then follows into the jungles of Burma and the return to the home front, where they encounter both danger and romance.
The production focuses on authenticity and accuracy, from the details of the locations to the buttons on the costumes. We hope you’ll consider supporting this production to help ensure that this all-American story is finally told.
