Arts Access Presents: A Series of Fortunate Events

Join us for five talent showcases featuring artists with disabilities in film, music, theatre, literature, and visual art throughout the month of May 2017.

VIP Kickoff Reception

A sneak peek of ULTRALIGHT – a new exhibition of works from artists with disabilities, meet & greet with artists, comments from the exhibition’s curator and Honorary Chair and First Lady of North Carolina, Kristin Cooper.

Author’s Reading
@ United Arts Council
Authors R.V Kuser, Kelly Bouldin Darmofal, and Barton & Megan Cutter will discuss their books and waht it means to write your own narrative as a person living with a disability. The discussion will be moderated by Piedmont Poet Laureate, Mimi Herman.

House Concert
@ The Paramount
A house concert featuring North Carolina native, singer songwriter, Chris Hendricks will perform a house concert in the home of local accessibility advocate, Alex McArthur.

Theatre Showcase
@ Raleigh Little Theatre
A survey of theatrical performances featuring artists with disabilities who range in age and performance style. This showcase will include Shakespeare, musical theatre, and comedy!

May 31
Film Screening
@ Cary Theatre
A screening of Tommy! The Dreams I Keep Inside Me. Directed by Rodrigo Dorfman this documentary follows Tommy’s journey, the film takes you into his community of adults with autism, the world of jazz musicians, his ups and downs, his work, his quirks and even his dirty laundry.
