Jazz ensemble The Mac McLaughin Group will perform at 12:15 p.m. Collage Dance Company will perform at 1:30 p.m. Vocalist Shannon Grier will perform at 2:30 p.m. The piano and flute duo of Elmer Gibson and Lori Barmer will close the show with a performance at 3 p.m. The event will also include a vendor market and children’s village (hands-on arts & crafts activities) from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The traditional Kwanzaa ceremony with libation, candle lighting, and Harambee Circle will occur at 1 p.m.
Kwanzaa is a celebration for all people, focusing on family, friends and the fruits of the earth. During Kwanzaa, people are invited to ponder the Nguzo Saba, seven powerful principles derived from African heritage, as a means of taking stock, celebrating achievements and entering the future refreshed and renewed.
The Cary Kwanzaa Celebration is produced by the Town of Cary in partnership with the Ujima Group.
