Cancer surviving veteran is dancing for research

BailaCura 2017 aims to raise 100K for UNC Lineberger Center

U.S. Army veteran and cancer survivor, Matt Bergens, is organizing BailaCura 2017 – a fundraising dance festival in hopes of raising $100,000 for cancer research.   The 4-day event, scheduled for September 21-24, will provide public workshops on Salsa, Bachata, Zouk, and Kizomba dances, and will culminate in a Saturday evening gala with dinner and fabulous performances by world renowned Latin dancers.

After graduating from North Carolina State University, Matt was commissioned into the U.S. Army and served with the 82^nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg until a cancer diagnosis ended his military career.  Along with the power and passion of dance, Matt credits his dramatic recovery to research and the treatment he received at UNC-Chapel Hill’s healthcare system.
