Cary Road Race
Apr 8, 2017 @ 8:30 am - 1:00 pm
For the 39th consecutive year, hundreds of runners will take over Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre in one of the area’s most scenic competitive runs. The Cary Road Race is slated for April 8, rain or shine, with staggered race times: 8:30 a.m. for the 10K; 9:45 a.m. for the 5K; and 10:30 a.m. for the 1-mile Fun Run. Online registration ends April 4; runners may register onsite the morning of the race. Awards ceremonies follow 30 minutes after the last runner finishes each race.
This year’s race takes runners around Symphony Lake and along nearby Regency Parkway and Ederlee Drive. As such, on race day starting at 7 a.m., traffic will be limited along these streets until 8:30 a.m. From 8:30-11:30 a.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane on Ederlee Drive from Regency Parkway to Kendleton Place and Regency Parkway from Ederlee Drive to the Booth Amphitheatre Parking. Officers will be stationed at Kendleton Place to safely move traffic as necessary.
Proceeds for the Cary Road Race are earmarked annually for local youth and fitness projects. Past projects include Cary High School track resurfacing and contributions to Kids Together Playground and Triangle area Special Olympics athletes. This year’s Cary Road Race proceeds will be used to enhance existing greenways and trails in Cary. There are more than 80 miles of greenways and trails in the Cary area, with many linking to state and county trails.
The Cary Road Race is held in April during the Town of Cary’s Fit Cary Month, an initiative challenging citizens to Get Fit, Be Fit, and Stay Fit; a complete list of April health and wellness activities is available at www.townofcary.org.
