Family Funday at the Pope House is a family-friendly, day-long event celebrating African American freedom, history, and community.We will be kicking off our event with a libations ceremony, conducted by Dr. Kwesi Brookins. Hosted during regular museum operating hours, we will be offering amended house and neighborhood walking tours, arts and crafts, light refreshments/water ice to keep our guests cool, and rare historic artifacts from the Pope Family collection and Shaw University. From 1-4pm, we will be having a DJ This event is intended for all audiences, and hopes to draw in those celebrating the Juneteenth holiday and interested in African American history.
Sunday Juneteenth is a great day to come out for a tour of the Pope House, home of Dr. Manassa T. Pope, one of the first licensed African American physicians in North Carolina. Learn more about Dr. Pope’s legacy, family, and community, and celebrate Juneteenth in the heart of Raleigh’s historical 3rd Ward.
