Lake Street Dive is back with a new album called Free Yourself Up. (It releases May 4 on the Nonesuch label.) The Boston-based quartet met as students at the New England Conservatory of Music, where they discovered a mutual love of jazz, R&B, rock, and pop and the ability to put it all together in one irresistible package.

Powerhouse vocalist Rachel Price fronts the band that features Mike Calabrese on drums, Bridget Kearney on acoustic bass, and Mike Olson on guitar and trumpet. Free Yourself Up is their most confident album yet, seriously soulful and exuberantly rocking, but in many ways their most intimate and collaborative. Calabrese says, “This time around, we were changing so many things anyway, we felt freer to go deep into various subjects and explore a multitude of emotions.”
