Learn About Disaster Preparedness
Sep 9, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Cary Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is having a disaster preparedness event at Centrum Plaza, 2342 Walnut Street, Cary, NC 27511, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 9, 2017. This free event is open to the public and all media. Any pre-interviews or special interest stories can be done by emailing Bob Hutzler at bobincary@aol.com or calling 919-280-3166.
The event will include many hands-on stations to learn what an individual needs to consider to get ready for an emergency or disaster both at home and while they are in public situations. Although many of the activities will also be children-friendly, there will be special entertainment for the children while the parents learn at each of the stations. The event will be free.
September is National Preparedness Month as declared by FEMA and Cary CERT would like to help educate the public toward this goal. The month is a reminder to take action and prepare for any type of emergency that can affect us where we live, work, and visit.
Cary CERT is located in Cary, North Carolina, and is sponsored by the Cary Fire Department. Our local website is at http://www.carycert.org. The goal of CERT is to educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and train residents in basic disaster response skills. More information about the national CERT program is available at https://www.citizencorps.gov/cert/.
