A Doorway to Hope, a Cary based charity, is holding its fourth annual  “Open the Door” charity event on October 1 at 7pm at Maximillans in Cary. This event is our only fundraiser to benefit our Crisis Fund.

 This year, local jewelry store, Kendra Scott, is donating 50 boxes of jewelry, valued at $75-$300, for our “Mystery Jewelry Pull.”

 Our Crisis Fund helps “working poor” families who are at a critical juncture and need temporary assistance to get back on their feet. Any one of us can fall on hard times, but many of the “working poor” live paycheck-to-paycheck and do not have the extra resources to cover unexpected expenses. In most cases, these families do not qualify for government assistance and do not know where to turn for help. ADTH can help prevent a family’s homelessness when a crisis occurs. 

Through our Crisis Fund, in 2016 we provided emergency funds to prevent eviction to 13 families in Wake County. In addition, we helped  provide furniture, including beds and critical household items to many families. These families had experienced death, cancer, loss of jobs, loss of spouse, abusive relationship etc. and were suddenly faced with losing their home or having to move unexpectedly. These were families right here in our community.
