PineCone Youth Bluegrass Jam
Apr 29, 2023 @ 2:30 pm
Come play some tunes, hang and make friends at this youth-lead jam session held at the Cary Art Center. These are fun, friendly jams that include some skill building but will also provide opportunities for young musicians to get to know each other and learn about bluegrass jamming. Songs will be determined depending on the skill levels of the students who come to the event. More experienced music students have the option to come prepared with a song to lead, either an instrumental or a singing song where they sing the verses/chorus, preferably with only 3 or 4 chords throughout (for simplicity in teaching) – this is not a requirement to participate. This program is open to musicians ages 18 and under, and is organized by the PineCone Youth Council. The Youth Council is mentored by Jef Walter, a local musician who plays with the Beer & Banjos All Stars. Here are some songs frequently played at PineCone Youth jams: Instrumentals: Angeline the Baker (D) Squirrel Hunters (E minor) Old Joe Clark (A) Cluck Old Hen (A minor) Soldier’s Joy (D) Whiskey Before Breakfast (D) Cripple Creek (G) Oh Susanna (C) Salt Creek (A) Bluegrass Stomp (D) Cherokee Shuffle (A) Blackberry Blossom (G) Billy in the Lowground (C) Big Mon (A) Foggy Mountain Breakdown (G) St. Anne’s Reel (D) East Tennessee Blues (C) Clinch Mountain Backstep (A) Temperance Reel (G) Songs with Lyrics: Worried Man Blues The Old Home Place Nine Pound Hammer Wayfaring Stranger Long Journey Home I’ll Fly Away Tear My Stillhouse Down Handsome Molly In the Pines Blue Ridge Cabin Home Angeline the Baker All are welcome!
