Seasons and Affections: A concert exploring relationships, evolving love, times of the year and times of life.

Featuring the CSC Chamber Choir led by Artistic Director Nathan Leaf.

Saturday, January 27 @7:30PM
Greenwood Forest Baptist Church

If you’re like us, you finally recovered from the hectic holidays just in time to endure the Triangle’s sub-freezing weather and short days. Ah, Winter!

Well, we have an antidote to those winter blues: our upcoming concert on January 27th. It features a wonderful mix of lively, reflective and engaging works:

Johannes Brahms’ thrilling Zigeunerlieder (Gypsy Songs) about the passions and challenges of young love, and a work which the composer described as “excessively joyful.”

Morten Lauridsen’s evocative Mid-Winter Songs reflecting on the themes of endings and rebirth, and which is in turn lush, stark, dazzling and comforting.

Rena Esmail’s A Winter Breviary, a set of three carols that trace a journey through the solstice, the longest night of the year. The music maps onto Hindustani raags (like scales in Western music) for that same time, reflecting the common ways we honor the darkness and celebrate the return of light.

Dale Trumbore’s In the MIddle, a tender, funny, rueful look at how time moves quickly and escapes us, written by a young composer making her name in the American choral world.

Z. Randall Stroope’s The Pasture, a lush and expressive setting for Robert Frost’s elegant poem of the same name.

We hope you’ll join us for this performance! Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students
