Ward Theatre Presents “Revival”
Apr 2, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Ward Theatre Company Opens New Original Show “Revival” on April 2
On Sunday, April 2, at 2pm, the Ward Theatre Company will open its newest original theater piece Revival. The opening day performance is part premiere, part fundraiser for the Company’s 2017 season. The cast will host a catered picnic lunch for all in attendance.
Created by Artistic Director Wendy Ward, Revival can be described as a “cultural and musical collage.” The production is set in Appalachia circa 1959 and is performed by ten ensemble members at a fast clip with the emotional fervor of a deep woods jamboree. Ward replaces Pentecostal snake handling and speaking in tongues with dynamic choreography set to an assortment of Gospel, Rap and R&B — suggesting commonality in rural and urban experience of poverty, faith and redemption.
The Company made its North Carolina debut last February with its production of Jacuzzi. Its second production I Wish You a Boat, was another Ward Theatre original.
Revival will be performed at the Ward Theatre at 4905 Pine Cone Drive, Suite 12 off Farrington Road in Durham. Performances run from April 2 through May 7. Visit wardtheatrecompany.com/revival for tickets.
