Meet the owner: My name is Jamie Reader, I have owned and operated Dust and Mop for over 12 years. I am originally from Syracuse, NY, and I moved to North Carolina in 1996 and graduated from North Carolina State University’s College of Management. I have been a resident of Cary for over 20 years. I have a son, Nate, who is a freshman at Green Hope High School and my partner (in life), Mark, who is my foundation and my best friend.
In addition to being a local business owner, I am also a Cleaning Business Fundamentals (CBF) coach to other house cleaning business owners across the United States. Helping other business owners grow a successful and rewarding business is a fulfilling experience.
About the business: Our mission statement is “To be a trusted and reliable house cleaning company. One that delivers a professional house cleaning and excellent customer service experience.” As a company, we execute our mission statement by hiring employees who share our core values: employees, customer satisfaction, reliability and integrity. At Dust and Mop, we also give back to our community. We are partners in Cleaning for a Reason, providing free cleanings for women undergoing treatment for cancer. In addition, for the last 12 years, we have partnered with Methodist Home for Children to provide children with Christmas presents.
Inspiration: I was inspired to start this business over 12 years ago because I noticed there was a need for a high-quality and consistent house cleaning service — one that took care of their employees, paid them well, offered benefits, paid days o and provided a great wage.

Town and Country, our 2022 Maggy Award Winner for Best Pet Services, opened 27 years ago and is now co-owned by Dr. Nick Ashford and Dr. Amanda Groulx. The veterinary hospital has five doctors and a support staff who provide excellent care to pets within the community.

Owned by Cary Magazine’s 2015 Mover & Shaker Amanda Kimball, Twisted Scizzors Salon & Spa is a perennial Maggy winner and no stranger to success!
Kimball and her staff of talented stylists are fully committed to their clients, going beyond the latest cuts and colors and thinking outside of the box for ways to connect with the community. Past events include Beer & Braids night, Curls Night Out and even an At Home Baking event at the beginning of the pandemic, where customers learned how to bake an apple crumble with public relations director Regina Kaiser.
In addition to beautifying residents, Twisted Scizzors continues to raise money for pediatric brain tumor research every year during charity cut-a-thons, where customers receive a free haircut for a minimum donation benefiting Bob’s Buddies.
Is it any wonder that customers continue to vote for them, year after year? In honor of their 10-year Maggy winning streak, we met up with Kimball (mid-haircut, of course) for a brief Q&A with your favorite stylist.
Favorite thing about owning a salon? I have a couple. One is helping stylists grow, and the other is being able to take care of so many people — not just their hair, but their inner well-being.
What is the hottest hair trend at the moment? A bixie. It’s a bob and a pixie mixed together.
What is your favorite iconic hairstyle? I really like glam waves.
What hair product do you think that everyone should have? Heat protection.
What does winning yet another Maggy Award mean to you? It means that we’re doing a great job servicing the clients in our area and we’re continuing to grow and meet their needs.
