Swagger Boutique
Best Clothing Boutique, Best Gift Shop
Swagger is no stranger to Maggy Award wins, and for good reason. Opened as a small gift shop in 2002, the original store carried everything from jewelry and handbags to home accessories. In 2011, Swagger expanded and started selling trendy, affordable clothing. Now with two locations in Cary and Raleigh, Swagger continues to thrive thanks to Mandy Becker, whose passion for gift shops started when she was 16 years old.
“I’m from a small town in Georgia with only one gift shop, and I loved it,” said Becker. “I loved the feeling I got when I went in there, I loved the products, I loved getting their items as gifts, and I loved how the recipients always loved them. That’s kind of how I fell in love with the whole gift store idea.”
Two years after receiving her engineering degree at Georgia Tech, Becker opened Swagger and established quite the presence in the Triangle by interacting with regulars and providing gifts and clothing for all occasions. Becker even had one employee who had been shopping at Swagger since she was 3 years old.
“I love our customers. I love our staff. It’s just a really fun job to have,” said Becker. “I love waking up every morning and coming to work, because it’s always going to be different.”
Johnson’s Jewelers
Best Jewelry Store
Johnson’s Jewelers is the oldest jeweler in Cary, so this family-owned business has had plenty of time to win over the hearts of locals!
Family patriarch Noah Capps had a vision to provide great customer service and honesty to his customers when he first came to Cary in 1968, and his son and current owner John Capps continues to make that vision a reality.
Capps likes to keep his family close — his two sons, Brandon and Bradley, both work in-store, and visitors are often greeted at the door by John’s grandchildren (jewelers in training)!
“We really appreciate the love and support from all the customers that come in the store and voted for us in the Maggy Awards,” said Capps. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, from our family to yours.”
“If you don’t know your jewelry, know your jeweler.”
The Perfect Piece
Best Home Furnishings and Décor
The Perfect Piece has won the Maggy Award for Best Home Furnishings and Décor for the past four years, and for good reason — owners Betty Haskell and Rebecca Ennis keep their showroom stocked with all the latest home trends, refurbished furniture and upscale consignment pieces you could want!
“You can come in and find those unique pieces and walk out with sofas, chairs and furniture the same day you come in,” said Haskell. “You don’t have to wait 6-8 weeks for delivery.”
After almost 10 years in business, Haskell and Ennis have been busy updating and renovating their store with some exciting new spaces and fresh paint, so swing by for a peek and pick up the “perfect” gift for yourself while you’re there! It will be much appreciated by the owners, who — despite all their past wins — continue to be thankful for their loyal patrons.
“Winning the Maggy Award means that we have loyal customers who are hopefully finding everything they need when they come into our store, and leaving happy — which is our main goal,” said Haskell.
