Annual Gala Raises Funds for Diabetes Research

Consider this a formal invitation to help find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

The Triangle/Eastern North Carolina chapter of JDRF hosts its 16th annual Hope Gala at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Raleigh Convention Center.

JDRF is the leading global organization funding research on type 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults suddenly.

Its focus is on finding a cure — turning Type One into Type None. Until that cure is found, advancements funded by JDRF help ease the burden of those with the disease. More than 85 percent of those living with the disease are adults. It has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, and there is no cure.

Since its founding in 1970, the nonprofit has invested more than $2 billion in research.

Close to 600 people attended the Hope Gala last year, and $1.1 million was raised. This year’s event includes cocktails, live and silent auctions, dinner and entertainment by Dueling Pianos.
