Sometimes it’s good to shake things up.
So, keeping the outdoor music scene moving in Garner is the newly-dubbed Downtown Sounds-Music on the Lawn series, which kicks off tonight with the band Soul Play. Admission is free.
Downtown Sounds marks the seventh season of crowd-luring outdoor concerts in Garner; the series was formerly known as Music off Main.
Along with its new name and logo is the addition of food trucks to the concert vendor lineup.
“Food trucks are becoming a staple part of events and the overall food economy in the Triangle area,” said Patrick Byrd, Garner Revitalization Association board member and Promotions Committee chair. “We want to help bring that excitement to Garner.”
Food trucks tentatively expected at various concerts include Mac-Ur-Roni, TJ’s Kitchen, Chick-N-Que and Baron Meatball; returning this year is family favorite Heavenly Hotdogs. Updates will be posted at Facebook.com/DowntownGarner.
Each free concert in the series is held from 6 to 9 p.m., on the lawn of the Garner Performing Arts Center, located at 742 W. Garner Road.
Parking is available at the GPAC main entrance and throughout the Avery Street campus, located at 125 Avery St. Bring your chairs or blankets but no coolers or pets, please.
Other dates in the 2014 Downtown Sounds schedule are:
