Tara Croft and Aaron Mills
Marine 1st Lt. Aaron Mills and former Cary Magazine editor Tara Croft let their fun-loving personalities shine when planning their wedding, crafting a day that was lighthearted and
full of special memories for the couple and guests alike.
One of its most unique details was the remote-controlled helicopter ring bearer, a nod to Aaron’s career as a military pilot. Ride of the Valkyries heralded in the toy chopper which flew the rings down the aisle to the best man — a fitting detail as Tara’s engagement ring was also flown in via aircraft. Aaron proposed after piloting cross-country for nine hours to surprise Tara at her home in Morrisville.
The bride’s processional was especially touching.
“My father mustered up the strength to walk me down the aisle,” said Tara, “even though he can’t usually take more than a few steps after being diagnosed with ALS two years ago.”
The “unplugged” ceremony was officiated by a friend from the couple’s running club. Guests were invited to complete Mad Libs-style well wishes for the newlyweds, and the wedding favors, bottled hot sauce and barbecue sauce, were custom made by the bride and groom.
