Sure, we love our picnics and our day off.
But let’s not forget what Memorial Day is all about — honoring those who have served and died for the freedoms we can’t take for granted.
Here’s where to do just that in Western Wake:
Monday, May 30 at 2:30 p.m.
Veteran’s Freedom Park, 1513 N. Harrison Ave.
The Cary Town Band will open the ceremony with patriotic music, and speakers include Army veteran Ronnie Sadowski, founder of Wags 4 Tags, which pairs veterans across North Carolina with trained companion dogs.
Flags will wave at the Carolina Veterans Support Group’s Field of Flags at Veteran’s Freedom Park in memory of those who served or are serving our country.
To sponsor a flag, contact the group at (919) 559-1057 or cvsgnc.org.
Parking will be available at Cary Academy, across the street from Veteran’s Freedom Park, and a free shuttle will run.
