Led by director Scott Stein, Endless Sports is a local nonprofit offering athletic opportunities in a fun and safe environment to members of the special needs community. After hosting a successful lacrosse clinic in 2021, in which they registered over 20 athletes with special needs, they recently partnered with the Town of Apex for their first Inclusive Indoor Lacrosse League for ages 12+. The league had 27 players and about 30 volunteers.
“Knowing that most of the players had no experience playing lacrosse prior to the program, and then to hear them tell me that they’re going out and buying their own lacrosse sticks and helmets is extremely gratifying,” said Stein. “I also think that the program touches more lives than the players. We’ve received so many positive comments and thank-yous from the families of the players as well.”
For those who are interested in registering or volunteering, Endless Sports and the Town of Apex will be partnering again for another season from May 6 to June 24. Apex residents can register on the town’s website beginning March 21, and everyone else can register starting April 4 — space is limited, so don’t hesitate!
“Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the majority of our volunteers — who are all incredible — are high schoolers who are learning about compassion, patience and the importance of community. It really bodes well for our next generation,” said Stein.
As a small family-run nonprofit, Stein is always looking for volunteers to assist with every aspect of the business. Whether it’s marketing, grant writing, securing sponsors, website design and maintenance, coaching, game-day assistance — Endless Sports could use your help!
“The program is truly amazing, and everyone (participants, families and volunteers) walks away with a smile on their face,” said Stein. “Both of my boys play lacrosse, and we’ve been a lacrosse family for years, so it made sense to start by offering lacrosse. With that said, we are completely open to expanding and offering other sports further down the road.”
