Dr. Cindy Johnson
Peak City Veterinary Hospital
Inspiration: I care deeply about all my patients and love connecting with their owners as well. I consider them family. I get to be the voice for those animals when they are in need. They can’t verbalize what is going on, so with my medical knowledge, I can diagnose and help treat them.
Whether it’s having a little kitten get over a cold to performing major surgery on a dog or even being able to comfort my owners during a difficult time, every case I have means the world to me and gives me the opportunity to be small part in my clients’ “furry kids” lives.
Professional highlight: Getting into and graduating veterinary school. I was told, by other professionals, that I would not get into veterinary school because I didn’t have the GPA to get in. But with a lot of hard work, experiences, and faith, I got in. And not only did I get in, I opened my own clinic!
I am also proud of the fact that I earned a certification in animal chiropractic, which is unique area of medicine. I am proud that I can offer a different avenue of non-traditional therapies to my patients.
Biggest risk: Opening the business on my own. I never thought this would be something I could do on my own as a single woman. It took years of planning and connecting with the right people. It was such an amazing journey to see my clinic built from the ground up. I still am in awe of seeing “Peak City Veterinary Hospital” on the front of my building.
Core values: When I decided to open my practice I instantly thought of the “3 C’s: Care, Compassion and Community.” It is the first thing you will see on the wall of my office.
I want my patients to get the best care that is provided with complete compassion for them. I also want to be part of the community and be able to give back, which is why I do a lot of work with rescues. Knowing I have been a part of the journey for an animal to be saved from the shelter to finding its new home, makes all the difference in the world to me.
Greatest challenge: Teaching myself about business. They don’t teach you anything about business in veterinary school. I had to do a lot of research and self-teaching to get the business going. I was also fortunate to be able to make some good connections that were able to guide me on making the right decisions for my business.
Fun fact: I am a HUGE Ohio State Buckeyes fan; I have an area of my front desk dedicated to The Ohio State University. Football season is the best! I even make my dog wear a football jersey during every game.
