Million-Dollar Milestone

Anna’s Angels, a Cary-based nonprofit that promotes clinical research for Down syndrome, celebrates its 10th birthday this year.

It also celebrated an important milestone after its annual gala, held March 9.

“It was a great gala,” said Anna’s Angels founder and Director Michelle Pfeiffer. “We raised $108,000 and reached our million dollar goal” for all-time fundraising. All proceeds go directly to Duke.

Dr. Priya Kishnani and Ishan Munshi

As a special guest at the gala, Anna’s Angels welcomed Glee star Lauren Potter, who has Down syndrome. Other guests of note include Dr. Priya Kishnani, Division Chief of Medical Genetics in the Department of Pediatrics at Duke, and Ishan Munshi, the first employee with Down syndrome hired at Duke. He will be a research specialist in the Duke Down syndrome clinic.

In February, Anna’s Angels rolled out a new website and logo. “The new website is more modern and functional and will help tremendously in our efforts to raise research funds that will improve the cognitive and communicative ability of individuals with Down syndrome,” Pfeiffer said.

Anna’s Angels shows no sign of slowing down — its new fundraising goal is set at $1.5 million.
