Rex Hospital Open Supports New Cancer Center

Joey Garber won the 2018 REX Hospital Open, shooting 18-under par to take home the trophy. The victory gave Garber a $117,000 top prize.

Raleigh welcomes more than 150 professional golfers from around the world to the REX Hospital Open, May 30 to June 2 at The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh.

In addition to international players, several golfers with local ties are expected, including Albin Choi, an N.C. State All-American; Cary native Ben Kohles; and Cameron Percy, of Raleigh.

Proceeds from the event will support the new UNC REX Cancer Center, which is under construction across Blue Ridge Road from the main hospital campus in Raleigh.

The tournament’s charitable efforts, coupled with its family and fan-friendly environment, attract thousands of golf fans each spring. In addition to the great golf, visitors can expect food trucks, beer tents, kids’ activities and live music.

This year’s REX Hospital Open, part of the Web.com Tour, marks the 32nd anniversary of UNC REX Healthcare hosting charity golf. More than $9 million has been raised for patients, programs and services over the last three decades.

The Web.com TOUR is a chance for rising golf stars to earn their PGA TOUR cards. Recent winners of the REX Hospital Open include Raleigh native Chesson Hadley, Joey Garber, Conrad Shindler and Trey Mullinax, who are currently playing on the PGA Tour.

Tickets are available at rexhospitalopen.com. A daily ground ticket is $10, week ground tickets are $20 and Champion’s Club tickets are $100. First responders, employees of the Wake County Public School System, and active-duty and retired military are admitted free.
