Yep. There’s an App for That

Did you know the Town of Cary is a registered developer in the App Store?

It’s true. The Town delivers its own Apple and Android apps to facilitate use of its services. If you don’t have these on your device, consider checking them out.

Cary Collects

If you live in Cary, you can count on a weekly visit from the garbage collection team. The process is like clockwork … unless there’s a holiday, which may then shift your pickup date. Many of us fall back on the time-honored tradition of checking to see if our neighbors have put out their trash to let us know if we’re on the right schedule, but the Cary Collects app solves this problem for you.

Simply add your address and the tool will keep you posted on your schedule for garbage, recycling, and yard waste pick-up, including notifications to help remind you to get items to the curb. There’s also a handy “Waste Wizard” to help you figure out how to dispose of other types of trash like large items, dangerous substances, and electronics that require special handling.

Cary has put a lot of work into its bus stops, making them accessible, attractive, and ensuring they’re well lit. But you won’t have much time to enjoy them with the help of the GoCary app. Photo credit: Town of Cary

One of the perks to life in Cary is the excellent bus system. It’s easy to overlook, but the Town has developed a multitude of routes for convenient, comfortable travel. Best of all, the core “Fixed Route” trips are free through June 30, 2025. Maybe it’s time to consider the bus?

If so, you need the GoCary app. This handy tool can provide the best route for your destination, and tracks your bus to provide hyper-accurate estimates for its arrival at your stop. It also provides alerts for route delays or planned closures.

Other Resources

If you haven’t needed it, you may not have checked out the Town of Cary website. I don’t often say this about websites, but you’re missing out.

The Town website is a treasure trove of details and insights. In addition to routine information, the website offers transparency on the Town’s initiatives and projects. It also has a number of resources that I would recommend bookmarking on your device. Try the “Add to Home Screen” menu option on Apple to put these resources a mere click away.

Bike & Hike Map – Are you a fan of the Town’s greenway system? Do yourself a favor and add a link to this map, which shows routes throughout the Town and includes Rules of the Road (learn about “Sharrows!”).

RecTrac – Make friends with this site to find programs for kids and seniors (and all ages in between), as well as indoor spaces and shelters available to reserve.

Events – Want to stay on top of all the Town activities? This site lists the major annual events, as well as providing a preview of what’s upcoming. It’s a great way to stay on top of what’s happening and plan for the big events you don’t want to miss (ahem, Pimento Cheese Festival).
