“We treat people like they are coming to our house for a meal.”
That’s how chef-owner Michael Nader describes the dining experience at his superb Persian cuisine restaurant located near the RDU Airport.
A native of Iran who moved to North America when he was 12 years old, Nader practiced accounting prior to opening Moustache Café last fall.
“I’ve been cooking ever since I was a young boy,” he recalled. “I enjoy making healthy, tasty food that makes people happy.”
Kebabs grilled over an open flame are the star attraction here. Filet mignon, cage-free chicken and ground chuck all shine, but nothing emerges brighter than the succulent lamb.
“I came up with a marinade that makes the meat really tender,” said Nader, who chose not to reveal all the elements. The key ingredient is olive oil along with the piquant spice, sumac.
Nader’s fiancé, Mexican-born Betti Villa, oversees the dining room. She also has added a few extras to the menu, such as special drinks made with fresh fruit and honey.
Moustache Café is open weekdays for lunch. Dinner is served Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays).
